David -- ...have the ability to find the answers. I still like to look in a book once in a while.

This why we source material, right? :)

Phil -- I'm of exactly the same mind.

I remember what he did to keep from talking while a client was answering a question. He'd put his hand on his chin while extending his forefinger up and over his mouth. :)

I consider him one of the most important pros in my development, and surely one of my mentors.

Chris -- Surely our experience leads the way. Everything I know however doesn't fall under experience. Even if a question does tap into my experience, it's possible that experience was long ago and not repeated since.

It's knowledge and experience, plus the expertise to put both into effective application.

It's been my observation the folks asking questions in my office care less about the answer's origin that it's veracity.

You gotta know the answers, or perhaps more important, have the ability to find the answers. I still like to look in a book once in a while. :)

I will never forget what Chuck Chatham taught me back in the early 80s.
Ask questions, LISTEN, and realize that the true answers are several questions deep.
And, property is just property.
I developed my own client selection criteria as a result of his teachings and it still serves me well.

Here's the way I think. My clients don't want my answers. They want my experiences. They want those experiences translated. They want their knowledge from my real life expereinces. Both my personal experiences and those of my clients.
