OK Sean -- Imitating a crazy ex-girlfriend isn't gonna get you anywhere. :)

One thing Buffet does, as you point out, is to give his fans what they paid for, then some -- a whole bunch of then some.

Billy Joel is being humble, which in today's world stands out. I can't wait 'till the pendulum swings back to when humility was the rule.

Jeff,

Your points make me think of another example: Jimmy Buffet. Only one really large hit, but MASSIVE results over years and years. Why? Because he delivers a steady, pleasing product just the way people expect. His "return" on our investment always meets (and maybe exceeds by the smallest amount) our expectations. I beieve this is what you would call sound investing for retirement.

I am also reminded of another rock star quote that I love to this day. Billy Joel was being interviewed; they commented on his longevity and string of hit after hit, asking in the end what it felt like to be that good. He replied: "I am a mediocre song writer at best. I am consistent. Which is a disappointing commentary on the competition."

In that light Jeff, I congratulate you on your soaring mediocrity... :)

Brian >>Boring, steady, predictable, and drama-free. What makes for a great National Anthem makes for a good investment performance.

True enough. Rogers seemed to say things better than most. Boring, steady...drama-free. I wish I'd said that. :)

Sometimes simplicity is the best characteristic.

Results are always the desired goal; results without drama. It makes me think of the Will Rogers quote:

"Im not so worried about the return ON my money as I am the return OF my money"
