Today’s Bawldys Go To…

Posted @ 3:12 pm - Filed under Bawldys, Cool Info, Retirement

bawldyToday find out how some are still preaching to the masses using yesterday’s strategies. How one agent already had his own Purple Cow, and it was his own invention. What three young men saw that changed their lives — Freedom isn’t a gift — it’s earned.

Brian Brady over at World Wide Wealth Planners wrote Suze Orman: Grandma’s Stockbroker is Proven Wrong. I’ve long held she’s been teaching Dinosaur 101. Of course, I’ve been calling what she teaches Grandpa Economics forever. Brian has called it Boomer Economics. When you go to the site, scroll down to the above named post, as I can’t seem to get the link to go to the post itself. This is definitely a MUST READ.

Athol Kay, at REagent in Connecticut, like so many of us, had to have a client show him his idea really was a pretty good one. He kept looking for his own Purple Cow when he’d already put one in his own meadow. My Purple Cow illustrates the human side of our business. We’re always trying to do something to help our clients while simultaneously appearing brilliant to them. :) It’s a short read, but well worth it.

Larry Cragun wrote a piece, My Wakeup Call About Freedom that is absolutely a MUST READ, especially if you’re still in high school. It’s spot on for what today means to Americans — Freedom and Independence. My favorite line in this piece is, (talking about the Berlin Wall) “Freedom on one side, no freedom on the other, death in the middle.” A first hand description of what military defeat means in terms of your freedom.

“…and remember. The daily Bawldys have approximately 1/365th the value of our annual awards.”

  • Happy Independence Day, Jeff.

I’m calling Grandpa Economics “Depression Economics”. “Boomer Economics” is what you are writing a lot about; having the lion’s share of your net worth stashed in qualified retirement plans that will be confiscated by the government when you most need it.

Thanks for the Baldy. Love the new look.

  • Larry Cragun’s blog about the Wall is correct. I was in East Berlin in the 1970’s with a student group. Never was so scared in my life. When your passport is taken at riflepoint, it reminds you you are powerless.
I remember a student talking to me in hushed tones and slipping her address to me while shaking…the fear in those eyes… never forget it. I wrote a postcard to her several times and did what I was told…said nothing controversial…..never heard back from her. That just isn’t normal. Yes, we are blessed.
I have always disliked Suze Orman’s voice, manner and her advice, especially about Real Estate. My husband has heard me many times yelling at the t.v. when she is on…”NO WAY..you CAN”T be giving this advice about R.E.!!!!” How does the media pick it’s “experts”? The concept of appointing a woman financial guru to raise the financial consciousness of women in this country is a noble goal, but how about someone who is less obnoxious and more up to date?

  • It’s not that you can’t end up financially well off doing it Orman’s way, it’s just that it’s so much easier and faster using all the tools in the box. :)

Also, her anti-real estate bias has no real defense. I’m not for investing in the stock market, but I’d never tell folks they couldn’t become wealthy doing just that.

If women follow her, my guess it will mostly be to their detriment — but they’ll still be better off than if they did nothing. They’ll just never know how well off they really could have been.

  • I’ll have to say one thing good about Suze since I just bashed her. Currently she is pushing a package to do a living trust, will and other important documents. Also in the package is info to review your insurance policies, hopefully to keep from being ripped off by insurance agents. So she does some good things.

  • Sorry Cher – that doesn’t cover everything else she does. You’re too nice. :)
