San Diego Income Property Owners Will Never Have That Recipe Again

San Diegans, I speak from the heart when I tell you, the recipe we’ve relied upon for so many decades, is no more. The new recipe will not be to your liking, as it isn’t sweet and creamy, or light and fluffy cake any more. It’s aging, money sucking properties yielding less and less as time inexorably rolls on.
I was talking today with one of my all time favorite clients. She’d come upon me while I was relaxing in our shared neighborhood satellite office, Starbucks. She mentioned how different it would have been if she hadn’t exchanged out of San Diego several years ago. No matter the current travails, her cash flow now, even at it’s worst is easily triple to quintuple the cash flow she would’ve been getting if she’d stayed in San Diego.
It reminds me of the classic Macarthur Park, sung originally by Richard Harris. In it he could’ve been talking to those looking forward to retirement when he sung the words…
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky
We do become passionate when we speak of our retirement, don’t we? What an incredible visual he gave us — …like rivers through the sky…
Ask yourself if your retirement will look like that if you insist on imprisoning your real estate investment capital in San Diego. Stop and think — what sense does it make to keep trying to bake the same delicious cake, but with a much different and inferior recipe. Think clearly and listen to the video while visualizing your retirement. Has the recipe changed what’s possible for your retirement? Will it be as sweet as you’ve always planned?
