Chris - His mentor simply said, “Run longer. Sleep less.”

Sounds like doing whatever you need to do. Great comment - thanks.

Cher - I find by listening when clients need it, I'm often able to kill two birds with one stone.

First, they get to get 'it' out of their system, whatever 'it' is.

Second, I've learned so many things, and gotten even more good ideas while simply offering my ear to clients - I sometimes think I'm the biggest beneficiary, not them. :)

See you next week.

Benj, Like Chris, I allow myself to whine occasionally. But I keep it short..5 minutes only. And still make money.
It's good to be tough, but we all crack once in a while. Just get out the superglue and move on.
Jeff, One of the great services you give to your clients is an ear when we need it. You are the voice of experience, perspective and wisdom when we get shakey. See you next week.

You can't whine and make money at the same time (at least in this business)

Echoing earlier statements, a great post. A little too long, though. :)

I saw this Disney movie one time about a kid racing in the Iditorod (sp?). He was complaining that he was too small, too inexperienced, too young.

His mentor simply said, "Run longer. Sleep less."

I don't remember much else of the movie. But wierd as that sounds, that has stayed with me. Though I do like to take time to whine periodically.

Geoff - You're welcome. Most of us have heard those stories, haven't we? My 78 year old uncle tells me often that there are no sissies allowed in any family he's in. :)

Jeff, your writing (as always) is wonerful- when does your book come out?

The correction seems a little more tolerable if we take Grandma's advice! Unfortunately, a good number of agents, investors, lenders, etc. will bail during the correction. BUT, hey- that's survival of the fittest.

See you at the finish line!

Thanks for a post that lends perspective to the current challenges we face. Felt like I was listening to stories of my grandparents as well as my wife's as they both hail from the midwest and were adults during the Depression. For me, the takeaway is that we are all much stronger than we know but with our comparatively easier lives we can easily lose sight of this fact. Thanks for reminding us.

Thesa - Thanks - It's amazing the reach through time that generation has had. They were in their prime between about 1930 and 1960 and still teach us with their lives, deeds, and words.
