If that sounds like a lot just remember this. That's about an hour and 10 minute drive. In DC I lived 21 miles from my office and it took me an hour and a half in the morning, 2 hours at night. Two things I notice from your story; 1. There is always one exception! 2. Once you are outside the east and west coasts, people don't think anything of driving 5 hours if the trip will be worth it.
